We are thrilled to invite you to a special concert dedicated to the legacy of Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. and the enduring spirit of the civil rights movement. Join us for an unforgettable evening celebrating brotherhood and social harmony through the power of music.

This concert will feature unique works that evokes through music and poetry a communal dream of peace, equality and justice for all. Together, we’ll reflect on the strides made and the journey ahead, reminding us all of the strength found in unity.

We are excited to share some information about our upcoming January concerts, entitled “I Have a Dream”.  As the title suggests, the theme of this concert is a celebration of the life of Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr., and it’s no coincidence that the concerts will take place over the weekend that we celebrate his birthday!  I first began to explore the idea of a dream-themed concert and those thoughts eventually developed into the idea to honor the life and work of one of this country’s most prominent civil rights leaders.

The second half of our concert will include songs about Martin Luther King Jr., songs who’s text comes from his writings and speeches, and even a song that is widely known to have been one of his favorites!  I think this is going to be a very special musical experience for both our audience and all of us with the Zia Singers.

Before we perform all of those songs however, we will present a contemporary work by the Swedish composer Mårten Jansson called Missa Popularis.  The title translates from Latin to ‘popular mass’ and its musical roots come from folk music. It was composed in 2015 and is accompanied by string quintet.  I have had the pleasure of communicating with Mr. Jansson regarding his composition and our upcoming performances of it, and I am really looking forward to introducing this beautiful piece to our Santa Fe audiences.

I hope you will mark your calendars for Saturday evening, January 18th and Sunday afternoon, January 19th, 2025 for these two exquisite concerts. We will be performing at the beautiful Cristo Rey Church, on the east side of town, and we sincerely hope to see you at “I Have a Dream”.​
